We are delighted at the impact of our intergenerational project launched in the summer of 2019. The pupils visit the residents at Sherwood House Residential Care Home every week to enjoy activities together such as water colour painting, crafts & board games. This has brought great joy to all involved and is the highlight of their week. The children love the friendships they have built & have noticed, amongst other things, increased confidence. The project has been such a great success that the BBC came to film a news report.
Our link with Sherwood House Intergenerational Project ‘Young at Heart’ continues during the pandemic – this has been a wonderful blessing to all concerned during these difficult times. Although our weekly visits have been put on hold the children have been exchanging letters, postcards and phone calls. The children have also shared their stories, artwork, photographs, sent in weekly adaptations of ‘Wind in the Willows, made a rainbow banner and sent fresh flowers for the residents to arrange. We will endeavour to find creative ways to enable the strong friendships made to continue until we can meet again.
