English:
Our focus texts this term:
Mathematics:
This term, children will be working on the following mathematical learning objectives:
Year 1 – Weight and Volume, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Position and Direction, Place Value to 100, Money and Time
Year 2 – Fractions, Length and Height, Position and Direction, Time, Capacity and Temperature
In Key Stage 1, we use the mastery maths scheme Primary Stars. Please find additional learning resources (by clicking on the link below) that you can use to support your child with their maths learning at home.
Science – Plants
In science lessons, we will learn about planting seeds, the lifecycle of plants, what plants need to grow and the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. We will learn about the differences between garden plants and wildflowers; discovering how important wild flowers are for bees and other pollinators.
History – Adventures and Explorers
In history, children will learn about Christopher Columbus. They will consider why he is a significant person in history, what he did and why he became famous. They will also learn a little about what life was like on board a ship in the 15th century.
Geography – Oceans and Seas
This term, our learning in geography lessons will be all about the world’s oceans and seas. We will learn what an ocean is and where the 5 oceans of the world are situated. We will learn how the oceans are different at the North Pole and the Equator. In addition, we will learn about the variety of creatures that live in the sea and how their habitat is affected by pollution.
RE – What do Christians believe God is like?
This term, we will be listening to two stories from the Bible: The Lost Son and Jonah and the Whale. We will learn what a parable is and discuss what these stories reveal to Christians, about the nature of God. We will reflect on how this affects what Christians believe, what they do and how they pray. We will explore what it means to forgive and discuss how the idea of forgiveness, impacts how we behave in school.
Art – Flowers in Art
In our Art lessons, we will study how flowers have been represented in art. We will explore the sunflower paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, Dutch still life paintings from the 16th century and botanical water colours. We will learn how to mix paint from the three primary colours so that we can sketch and paint our own works of art.
PSHE – Physical and Mental Wellbeing
This term, we will be exploring the importance of sleep and the benefit of having a regular sleep routine. We will also learn about looking after our teeth. In addition, we will explore our feelings; learning that everyone has good and not so good feelings and what we can do when we don’t feel great.
Music – Using your Imagination
In music lesson, we will focus on Pop style songs.
We will be singing: ‘ Supercalifragilistic’ from Mary Poppins, ‘Pure Imagination’ from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, ‘Daydream Believer’ by The Monkees, ‘Rainbow Connection’ from The Muppet Movie and ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin.
Computing
In Computing, we will learn that data can be represented in pictures. As a class, we will collect data and use a pictogram to record the results of an experiment.
Physical Education
We have two PE lessons each week.
On a Monday, we will be practising bat and ball skills.
On a Tuesday, we will be learning how to play tennis. Children will learn how to hold a tennis racket correctly, how to adopt the correct standing position to receive the ball and learn how to hit a tennis ball and return a ball to a partner.
French
Our French unit is called ‘Under the Sea’. In this unit of work, we will recognise and recall seven sea creatures and recall the numbers 1-5 in French.
